PayMod (Gusto): Your Gusto payroll journal.
Balanced QuickBooks entry in one drop!

QuickBooks Online has no native bulk import for journal entries. This turns a raw Gusto Payroll Journal export into a balanced, department-split journal entry file QBO accepts — no manual debits and credits, no spreadsheet math.

How it works

(Used this before? ⚡ Switch to Express mode — skip the steps, just drop your file.)

  1. Step 1: Tell us your QuickBooks setup
  2. Get your export
From Gusto, download your Payroll Journal Report CSV — see exactly where to find it below.
  3. Upload & convert
Drop the file in below — this uses 1 credit and gives you back a QuickBooks-ready file.unlimited plan, no credits used — you get back a QuickBooks-ready file.
  4. Import into QuickBooks
    • Works in:
      • QuickBooks Online Advanced (US).
      • Any QuickBooks Online plan in the UK or Canada.
    • In QuickBooks:
      • Go to Settings → Import Data → Journal Entries.
      • Upload the downloaded CSV file (a single file, not a folder).
      • The columns map automatically, since they already match Intuit’s own template.
      • First time only: the accounts in the file (such as Payroll Expenses:Gross Wages and Payroll Liabilities:Employee Tax Withholding) need to exist in your chart of accounts, or rename them in the file to match yours.

Step 4: Last step — ← back to your credits
Where do I get this file?
  1. In Gusto, go to Reports
  2. Build/open the Payroll Journal Report — not Payroll Summary from Pay History, which has different columns
  3. Set the date range — one pay period, or a whole month or quarter for catch-up work (each pay date becomes its own journal entry)
  4. If employees were paid reimbursements or you have company-paid benefits, keep the Reimbursements and Employer contributions columns in the report
  5. Export as CSV
  6. Download the CSV — that's the file to drop below

Amounts: written US style (1,234.56) or European style (1.234,56), with separators only between thousands and at most two digits after the decimal mark. If a number breaks that rule, or one file mixes the two styles, nothing is converted and you’ll see which row to check — a wrong amount never reaches QuickBooks.
